A prominent female musician has filed a lawsuit against the Recording Academy and its former president and CEO, Neil Portnow, alleging sexual assault and gender violence. The lawsuit also alleges that the Recording Academy was negligent in hiring, supervising and retaining Portnow.

According to the complaint, the alleged assault occurred during a meeting between the musician and Portnow in 2018. The musician claims Portnow physically coerced her, touched her inappropriately and made suggestive comments.

The musician is seeking compensation for the alleged assault and for the emotional and psychological distress she suffered as a result of the incident.

Portnow denies the allegations, calling them „a figment of the plaintiff’s imagination.“ The Recording Academy also denies the allegations and says it will vigorously defend itself in court.

This isn’t the first time Portnow has faced allegations of misconduct; in 2018, he was criticized for making comments seen as demeaning to female artists.

The lawsuit against Portnow and the Recording Academy is the latest in a series of high-profile allegations of sexual misconduct in the music industry. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to expose and address sexual harassment and assault in the music industry.
