Adam Scott Aims to Reignite Winning Spark at Australian PGA Championship

Australian golf champion Adam Scott is determined to return to winning form and his familiar surroundings at the PGA Championship of Australia at Royal Queensland.

Despite not having lifted a trophy since his 14th US Tour title at the 2020 Genesis Invitational, Scott remains optimistic about his chances of success at this week’s event. He believes a victory at Royal Queensland or next week’s Australian Open in Sydney could be the springboard for a career revival.

„It’s hard to pretend to have the confidence to close out a match and beat the whole thing,“ Scott told reporters on Wednesday.“ If I win this week or next week, it could be a springboard. It’s happened before, not just to me.“

Scott proved he has the ability to compete at the highest level to keep him inside the top 50 in the world rankings when he tied for fifth at the Bermuda Open earlier this month. However, he admits he needs a win to regain the confidence that comes with victory.

„I can’t get the same confidence just by fighting for titles and playing well,“ he said.“ Playing well is great, I played well in Bermuda. But that wasn’t a win. So it feels great to win on my home turf.

In an effort to improve his typical power iron play (which he feels has hindered his performance this season), Scott is trying out new equipment. His determination to regain his winning edge is evident in his preparation for the tournament.

„I usually get up three hours before kickoff,“ he said, „so tomorrow’s alarm clock is going to be crazy.“ When I saw the tee time …… I was very shocked. I was very shocked. I’m going to try to get ready and maybe, hopefully, fall asleep around 8 p.m. tonight and try to be as prepared as I can.

In addition to Scott, a number of strong players will be vying for the title, including defending champion and tournament favorite Cameron Smith, Lee Min-woo and Scotland’s Ryder Cup representative Robert McIntyre. Despite the threat of rain, the early tee time for the featured team event is expected to attract a large crowd.

Scott’s return to Royal Queensland marks an important moment in his return to winning form. With his determination, experience and the support of his hometown fans, he has the potential to reignite the winning spark and stand at the top of the leaderboard once again.
