Mavs prove size isn’t everything in blowout win over Timberwolves

The Dallas Mavericks may be lacking in the height department, but against the Minnesota Timberwolves, they proved that heart and fight can overcome mere size. Led by the stellar duo of Luka Doncic (34 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) and Kyrie Irving (35 points, 6 3-pointers, 8 rebounds, 5 assists), the Dallas Mavericks overcame the absence of Derek Lively II to pull out a thrilling 115-108 victory.

Irving, in particular, earned high praise from his coach for his scoring prowess, hitting six big shots from downtown. Kay was outstanding,“ said Jason Kidd. He and Luca set the tone offensively and defensively, and they trust each other to not only score, but to find their teammates.“

Doncic was the master of the mismatch offence, playing the role of puppet master throughout the game, creating open opportunities for Irving. The two key three-pointers Irving hit in the final moments of the game were thanks to the playmaking wizardry of Doncic, who turned the momentum of the game and sealed the win for Dallas.

For Irving, facing tough defenders was just another opportunity to show off his mastery of the game“. He explained, „When you play your best, you unleash everything you’ve practised. They tried to contain me, but I felt like I was in control on the court.“

Despite the Timberwolves‘ towering twin towers of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, the Mavericks refused to be bullied.“ Kidd admitted, „We knew our deficiencies, but we focused on the little things – rebounding, hustle, smart play. Those little things won us the win.“

The win was a testament to the Cavaliers‘ resilience and ability to overcome adversity. Doncic and Irving were on fire, proving that size isn’t everything and that sometimes grit and determination can overcome physicality.
