The University of Texas School of Public Health at San Antonio is the newest graduate school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The School was established to serve South Texas by addressing public health issues and closing gaps in health care.

The School’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program is designed to serve the people of South Texas. The focus of the program is to gather information about the structural and social determinants of health, develop solutions to the challenges that severely impact the region, provide high quality professional educational opportunities, and develop leaders who will serve the public in local and regional health departments as well as in the region’s many public health affiliates.

The Master of Public Health program will prepare students to study high-priority, evidence-based interventions that may have a significant impact on public health program needs in South Texas. Public health professionals work to build partnerships and alliances with public and private sector organizations to help address health challenges and bring about the changes needed to improve the public health and well-being of local and regional communities. They work with local communities, the healthcare community, policymakers, elected leaders, and the public to drive effective action.

The State of Texas, Bexar County, and the City of San Antonio have invested in a new School of Public Health to help and improve the lives of people like Leo and Maggie. The college’s first Master of Public Health students will begin classes in the fall of 2024. These graduate students will be among the next generation of public health „change agents“ who will work with the community to develop solutions to the region’s public health problems.
